LUFTSCHLOSS
The design seminar Hybrid Formations: Luftschloss (German for “Castle in the Sky”) asked students to design and construct prototypes of new architectures made possible by the advance of drone technology.  Teams were asked to reconcile the basic unit of architectural and spatial design, the cube, with the demands and constraints of flight, mass, balance, and aerodynamics.

Fantasiegebilde approached the design challenge with a lightweight carbon fiber space frame, within which were suspended the various power, mechanical, and flight control components of the drone. The space frame also allowed for the integration of screens, sensors and LED lights, transforming the drone into a mobile media platform.
